Need a new house? What does the architect actually do?

August 29th, 2009 Write Comment Product Announcements

Answers to this question were recently needed by one of our staff members at Fundisi and the search for a clear answer resulted in this short e-book. We felt that any help that could save someone serious money down the road, was definitely needed.

When considering the daunting prospect of acquiring a house, you are immediately presented with a decision:

  • Buy an existing house.
  • Build a new house.

Assuming that you have decided to build that dream house, you have to make another decision:

  • Build it yourself (with or without a builder’s assistance) as an owner-builder, or
  • Employ the services of an architect to manage the whole operation.

Making this last decision is what this week’s highlighted course is all about. This small e-book explains what an architect actually does (his job is much more than just designing a house) and helps you decide wisely between the two options. A respected professional architect wrote our little e-book course so it is obviously biased in favor of using an architect, but many of the points that are made can turn out to be critical if you are to avoid the myriad of pitfalls that lie in wait for you as a future house owner.

How does a Transistor Work?

Tags: how transistors work, IC, Transistor

Today’s highlighted course is all about transistors and how they work. Ever since the transistor was invented just over sixty years ago in 1947 ( by three physicists John Bardeen, William Shockley, and Walter Brattain at the Bell Telephone Laboratories) our world has been revolutionized. Nowadays we come across integrated circuits containing millions of transistors in a tiny encapsulation smaller than your thumb. The three men received the Nobel Physics Prize in 1956 for their joint invention.

As part of our beginner series of courses on learning electronics, this short 12-page PDF course explains with the help of clear illustrations just how a transistor actually works. The course also includes a few practical circuit illustrations and just a smattering of easy math to put matters in a firm technical footing.

Check out the course summary out by clicking here.

The full course download will only cost you $2.
